One death gives reason for a second. The second lends glory to the third. Some say he was mortal. But some say he rose from hell. Our salvation, our hope, no one knew. With the 'death' of Gotham's white knight, Harvey Dent, the people of the city turn their anger and frustration on the dark knight. The Batman.
The joker has been captured and sentenced to life in Arkham Asylum - surpassing the death
penalty with a plea of insanity. Gotham is currently on the mends after the clown's rein of destruction. Things are beginning to get back to normal. The batman has been laying low, and Gotham's crime underworld is once again... stirring... smelling their freedom again. And their chance to re-emerge.

Set and Match [iso: Bruce Wayne] « Thread Started on Oct 3, 2009, 1:35pm »
"Can I help you?" The young woman behind a rather large reception desk asked.
Selina Kyle currently stood on the top floor of Wayne Enterprises - after getting past the front desk, she was now in front of Bruce Wayne's office. "Yes. I have an appointment with Mr. Wayne... on behalf of the GWF." She said confidently; her voice smooth and assured. "Selina Kyle."
The young woman nodded and pulled up a computerized files of Mr. Wayne's schedule. Scrolling through after a few moments of silence, she nodded, "Yes, Miss Kyle. Unfortunately he's still in a meeting right now, but should be arriving any minute. But please... take a seat in his office." She said. Standing, the young woman opened the large double doors - leading into Bruce's office. Showing Selina in, she motioned to one of empty leather seats situated across from Wayne's large desk. The young woman nodded once Selina was seated, and left her alone - closing the doors behind her.
Her blue, cat like eyes traveled around the room. It was huge. Almost as large as her apartment, and it was merely an office. Large floor to ceiling windows bordered either side of the room, giving a near perfect view of Gotham city. Crossing her legs smoothly, Selina allowed herself to wait patiently, collecting her thoughts.
She was a new woman. No longer was she garbed in leather and lace; no high boots, no revealing outfits. No. Selina Kyle had class and style... and now, a means to do it. She was wearing a lovely white ensemble today - her hair neatly pinned up, and heels to top it off. Frankly, she looked as if she'd been working with the Gotham Wildlife Foundation for years; successful and integrated into a higher rung in Gotham's society. But she was the new blood. She'd even made up a story to go along with her recent 'arrival' into Gotham's upper middle class; she'd been in France. No one really asked her much after that. Either they didn't care, or Selina would change the subject.
One would never have pegged her for previously being a dominatrix, or from the slums of Gotham's East City. Her confidence gave the illusion that she belonged here. It's how she'd gotten the job at the GWF.... and furthermore, convinced them to let her go after their biggest fish. Wanye Enterprises. The GWF was struggling slightly with it's financial support. Apparently, protecting and preserving wildlife was not on Gotham's 'to do' list at the moment. Especially not with all these criminals running around and damaging city property. That's when Selina brought up the prospect of asking Gotham's largest company for a donation. While intrigued, the GWF had always avoided asking Bruce Wayne for donations, because of his billionaire playboy attitude.
Why would he want to help set aside land for the preservation of wildlife... when he could USE that land for some kind of construction project?
But Selina believed she could do it. She was incredibly persuasive when she had a mind to be. And besides. She could use a challenge; she wanted to prove that she could live this life, while helping a cause she believed so much in.
Selina had a way with men. From what she'd heard, she could see Bruce Wayne giving men a harder time about the subject. And most women might just fawn over him, as he charmed them out of requesting money. But Selina had a mission, and was determined not to take 'no' for an answer. Perhaps I should have brought my whip and heels... She thought sarcastically to herself - her first venture into the city as Catwoman coming into her mind.
As well as her first encounter with the Batman.
Then again, if she could tango with Batman and come out alive... Bruce Wayne should be no trouble at all.

It had already proved to be quite a taxing day for the billionaire businessman. There had been several business meetings, the merger of two or three sub-branches of Wayne Enterprises, the expansion of manufacturers in developing countries. Quite frankly, Bruce Wayne was ready to take a rest and call it a day. He looked to his watch, eyes squinting through the fatigue, and was surprised to see that it was only quarter of eleven in the morning still. He tapped on the quartz lens for a moment, wondering – hoping- that the time was wrong and that his watch had just merely broken. “Lucius, remind me to send my rolex back. I think it’s broken.”
He said to his older friend and the senior vice president of his family’s company. The older man didn’t say much in return, instead he smiled and softly chuckles, shaking his head at Bruce’s ironic life. Corporate billionaire playboy by day and roof-jumping, criminal-smashing vigilante by night. ‘Perhaps a change in lifestyles might make time go by faster, Mr. Wayne.’ Lucius offered as the two patiently waited for the elevator car to take them up to the highest floor of Wayne Enterprises. ‘If I’m correct, you have one more small detail to attend to though. A representative from the GWF is here to meet with you and discuss a potential donation on behalf of the Wayne Foundation and a fundraiser that she would like you to attend.’
Bruce’s eyes perked up and his head rose. His morning was so boring and uneventful that looking forward to one more meeting with someone about a struggling wildlife charity seemed too tedious for him. Bruce wanted to ask Lucius if he would attend to the representative himself, but something caught his ear. “She?” Lucius nodded as if the question was no more relevant than his desire to skip the meeting altogether. ‘Yes, I suppose the GWF has been holstering their best efforts so far and they’ve finally nailed you. They sent a woman.’ Lucius laughed.
Bruce feigned insult, but he knew that his older friend was merely joking at his persona. “Is she pretty?” He asked, trying to gauge whether or not this meeting would be worth his time, but Lucius merely shook his head again. ‘I highly doubt they’d send anything but, Mr. Wayne.’
The elevator doors opened and the two businessmen exited the car, each parting ways. Bruce nodded his farewell to Lucius and proceeded toward his office where his secretary rose from her seat and greeted him with several files. After explaining to him about the young woman in his office, she once again sat down and went about her work. Bruce sorted through his files as he pushed open one of the doors to his office, hardly even raising his head to acknowledge his guest. “You’ll have to excuse me Miss….Kyle is it? I hope you weren’t waiting for too long.” His voice was immediately arrogant and sarcastic, obviously not sorry for his delay, but that was part of his test.
Little did Bruce know what kind of test he was in for, having yet to meet this woman face to face.

Bruce sorted through his files as he pushed open one of the doors to his office, hardly even raising his head to acknowledge his guest. Selina kept her seat; her poise ready and alert, upright as she sat there. “You’ll have to excuse me Miss….Kyle, is it? I hope you weren’t waiting for too long.” His voice was immediately arrogant and sarcastic, obviously not sorry for his delay.
Selina couldn't help but give a slightly amused smirk at the comment.
"Waiting is a trap. There will always be reasons to wait." She said smoothly, her voice also holding a bit of a confident edge to it. "The truth is, there are only two things in life.... reasons and results." She said matter of factly. Pausing, she quirked a brow to him. "And reasons simply don't count. I am here for results, Mr. Wayne." Selina finished sharply; not in a harsh way, but an assured tone that clearly indicated the young woman wasn't going to take any bull shit.
Crossing one long leg over the other, Selina continued - tossing her own file onto Bruce's large desk. "Inside that folder, you'll find all the appropriate stats and information about the GWF. Naturally... you won't read it." She assumed, a small smirk on her lips, "But you don't HAVE to. It doesn't take a billionaire businessman to know that the GWF is in financial trouble. We loose more sponsors every day - which is why, despite recent setbacks and previous brush offs from Wayne Enterprises... the GWF has asked me to come here. On behalf of them. Again." She said. "I might be a new piece on the board, Mr. Wayne, but I'm certainly not new to the game." Selina said firmly; her eyes fixed on Bruce's.
Her small, impish smile stayed upon her lips, despite her assured and confident tone. "I want a donation from you. Your company is expanding by the hour, it would seem... and that requires more production. More land - and ultimately, less room for the already dying breeds of countless animals." Selina reminded him. Pausing, she broadened her smile to a faux polite one... one that was teasing. "I think it's the least you can do." She smiled.
It was a bit of a risk being so bold. Selina had heard about Wayne from her new employers... and rumor around Gotham was that you either loved him, or hated him. It was a thin line. He threw a fundraiser for Harvey Dent - which got a lot of people on his side. Obviously, he had faith in the good man. But previously, he'd acted the part of a spoiled asshole, and kicked everyone out of a party he'd had a year or so ago. Selina hadn't been there, but her co-workers had told her about it. Wayne's mood, it seemed, was just as unpredictable was Gotham's weather.
However, Selina had a new sense of confidence. The old Selina might have taken no for an answer, and given up then and there. But this NEW Selina was determined to get what she wanted, and succeed, by any means necessary.
"I'll make it easy on you." She said, standing. Reaching over and grasping a small piece of paper on his desk, Selina set it down in the middle of the long desk - and stuck a pen beside it. "You write down a... sizable... appropriate amount. And you can get back to doing... whatever it is you DO here." Selina teased with a playful smirk; her voice low and calm.

The morning was most definitely looking up. As the young woman entered his inner sanctum at Wayne Enterprises, Bruce's index finger came down upon the do not disturb button on the intercom that connected him to his assistant. He didn't need to say 'hold all calls' or anything of the sort. The implied message was implicit. He lifted his hand away and moved around the large desk and sat back in the comfortable leather chair that fit his frame well. The chair was slightly over scaled to give the impression that his arms and shoulders weren't so well defined beneath the suit tailored to disguise as much of that bulk as possible. It was OK for a billionaire playboy to workout, but he shouldn't necessarily be as intimidating as say...a guardian. His hands ran along the supple cordovan leather before coming back to rest lightly along the top of his desk.
"Waiting is a trap. There will always be reasons to wait."
"Oh...yeah?" His face held an expression that clearly said..I sort of think I get that...no, wait, maybe I don't. His mind was working a mile a minute but that was totally not apparent as he said, "Yeah, I guess if you get stuck in a trap....you'd have to wait. Bears get stuck in traps a lot don't they? Must hurt like hell." He was too good at this sometimes. Well, they did say you had to be smart to play dumb. And he was smart. His eyes fell to the folders on his desk, his posture shifted carefully, his shoulders slumping. The body language said that he found this all a daunting task, the business side of things.
"The truth is, there are only two things in life.... reasons and results."
That statement perked his interest but he kept his face down, his eyes buried on the open file in front of him, Not a philosopher but a realist, interesting. He'd already solved the problem presented to him in this particular request but he'd best wait until tomorrow to send the results of his calculations back to the division in question. In some cases he would not wait, but this wasn't one of them. There was no emergency, no danger of anyone being injured. Waiting would cost him twenty thousand dollars but he'd make that up in interest earnings in as much time. It was worth the expense to maintain the illusion that he was working so hard to present to the world.
"And reasons simply don't count. I am here for results, Mr. Wayne." Selina finished sharply; not in a harsh way, but an assured tone that clearly indicated the young woman wasn't going to take any bull shit.
At her tone he did look up finally. His face was a little vacant. But his mind wasn't. His eyes, intentionally soft - for the moment - as he assessed her features with an all too obvious male appreciation. They took in the way her leg covered the other, the way her hip curved, the trim waist, the underside of her breast as it rose out and rounded perfectly beneath her blouse and trim jacket. It was a test, this behavior, moving beyond rude to almost offensive. Even so, she did clean up nicely, this woman from the wrong side of the tracks. Despite his attempts at unsettling her, all in an effort to better assess her personality, Bruce did appreciate her beauty.
"Inside that folder, you'll find all the appropriate stats and information about the GWF. Naturally... you won't read it."
"Ah...you've figured that out, have you, Miss Kyle?" He offered her a slight smile of gratitude, it was easier to pretend, when you didn't have to pretend. Or something like that. Now he'd just spend the rest of the meeting watching her. He wouldn't have to pretend to involve himself in paperwork.
"But you don't HAVE to. Wayne, but I'm certainly not new to the game."
Piece. That did earn her a smirk before he recovered, "I see." His eyes moved from her breasts to the folder and then to her eyes. He liked her. Problem with this game he played, it didn't usually attract a woman with a brain, not unless she was solely out to get her hands on his money. He decided he was tired of super models and actress, not that he would stop seeing them, bored wasn't stupid. He did have to wonder how much this woman was carrying of her past with her. Fascinating to think she'd made this social climb in such a short time.
"Well, since you aren't requiring me to use my rather limited education, Miss Kyle," Bruce asked as he turned slightly in his chair away from her direct gaze. All of this as if he was bored out of his mind so he could look out of the plate glass window behind him and find something of greater interest. He sighed and asked, "I won't bother reading. But that does raise the question, what is it you want from me? Beyond my time, that is."
"I want a donation from you. Your company is expanding by the hour, it would seem... and that requires more production. More land - and ultimately, less room for the already dying breeds of countless animals." Selina reminded him. Pausing, she broadened her smile to a faux polite one... one that was teasing. "I think it's the least you can do."
Bruce liked her directness. He made the conscious decision to pull back just slightly. He was still planning on playing the Bruce Wayne game but he didn't feel the need to continue behaving quite so disrespectfully. He did find this woman intriguing. She carried herself well and so far she had yet to fall into any of the traps he'd laid for her. It wasn't often that he met a woman with half a mind, much less one with intelligence that was interested in anything but his money. Oh, wait, she was interested in his money. Just his luck.
His body turned from profile to face her once again as his eyes met hers from across the great expanse of the surface of the desk. He leaned more comfortably against the back of the chair and his hands came forward, connecting as if in thought. He sat there taking a moment or two longer to "think" than he actually needed to. His hands separated as the left came to rest on the arm of his chair. His right reached for the pen beside the folder and asked her, "What is it you'd like from me?"
"I'll make it easy on you." She said, standing. Reaching over and grasping a small piece of paper on his desk, Selina set it down in the middle of the long desk - and stuck a pen beside it. "You write down a... sizable... appropriate amount. And you can get back to doing... whatever it is you DO here."
"Bottom line." He spoke flatly now. Brokering money and providing aide was something he did. He enjoyed helping people, the world around him, certainly. At the same time he didn't fail to notice the condescension in her tone. He supposed he deserved it. He acted unfazed, as if he'd missed it, "Just how much is this going to cost me?"

"Bottom line." He spoke flatly now. He acted unfazed, as if he'd missed the condescension in her tone, "Just how much is this going to cost me?" The billionaire asked her.
Selina paused, her head tilting slightly before she shrugged and casually began to walk toward the large windows that bordered the room around them; allowing them both to see into Gotham's core. "This doesn't need to be difficult, Mr. Wayne. I'm not asking for your soul. I'm not asking for a large novelty check with 'GWF' written over it." The woman assured him in a warm tone - much different from the one she'd come in with. It was just a tactic. Wayne had his, and Selina had hers. Turning from gazing out the window, she walked back over toward where he sat at his desk. Coming to stand beside him, Selina's fluent and graceful form leaned down next to him, grasping a small piece of paper and a pen. "What I want for the GWF is simple." She explained, her cat-like eyes glancing sideways at him, before moving back to the paper and pen. At least he smelled nice, and not like old money... She thought bemusedly to herself.
Taking it, she wrote one simple word on the paper - before standing back upright and moving away from him.
Land.
As she rounded back around his desk, Selina resumed her seat - crossing one leg over the other as she continued, "I know your family has several thousand acres outside of Gotham... surrounding the Palisades and other bouts uninhabited farm land, as well as a few hundred acres of forestry." She said. Selina had done her homework. "What I want is that land. The GWF could make great use of it... animals could be moved there, and it could be turned into a wildlife preserve. It would be a start. That land isn't being used for anything else, and has been unattended for years now." She said, knowing that Bruce Wayne was probably already well aware of that fact.
The documents Selina had acquired at the court house had initially listed his father as the land's beneficiary and owner. Now, like all of the Wayne family assets, it had passed to his one and only son, Bruce Wayne. Her eyes focused on his own now - not so much demanding; there was strength there, yes, but there was also a hint of something more. Desperation, perhaps? Or determination to do what she knew was right, and to fight for something she believed in.
That near death experience hadn't been easy. In fact, it had been the third in her lifetime. Selina knew she must have nine lives... and she didn't want to carelessly waste more. The first time, she'd survived by her own will. And the last two - Batman had been there to save her. Or at least, leave her at the hospital door. This of course cued up her desire to move from the gutter of society - and become something more. Granted, she had stolen from a nearby jeweler to fund this 'move'... and all it had cost her was a rather run-in tousle with the Batman. Which had been strange, considering he'd saved her life twice before as Selina Kyle. Not that he'd know.
But she was here now, and she was damned if someone like Bruce, or Saul Patroza (or anyone else) was going to deny her the chance to stay in this world. A world where she could do something beneficial.
"I know to a business man of your stature... it might seem like a fruitless... even futile donation. One not worth your time. Considering how fast your company is expanding, I'm sure you'd rather use that land for Wayne Enterprises." She said, her eyes flickering down as she crossed her hands on her lap. "But we both know... you aren't like most other business sharks, are you?..." Selina said, offering him a sly smile. "Charitable one moment, then kicking guests out of your mansion the next. If what I've heard is correct." The young woman teased lightly, her eyes flickering to the massive windows once more, before looking back to him. "So to be honest, Mr. Wayne... all fronts, all techniques and tactics aside.... I'm not really sure what your answer will be." Selina admitted with a slight shrug as her feline-like eyes and features focused on him.

"This doesn't need to be difficult, Mr. Wayne. I'm not asking for your soul. I'm not asking for a large novelty check with 'GWF' written over it."
"That is good to know, Miss Kyle." He said as an aside. She was just leading him through a segue, guiding him along like a good little boy toward whatever destination she had in mind for their meeting. He could already see several figures floating around in his mind, numbers she could ask for. Some of which she might actually get from him. So he sat where he sat and he waited, funny how no matter her philosophy on the matter he hardly minded at all. Something had changed in her demeanor, she was warmer. He liked it but then again he'd liked her hard edged entrance too.
"What I want for the GWF is simple."
"Simple is never easy," he said, forgetting himself for a moment. Bruce was all too aware of her closeness, her scent. She smells fantastic...what perfume is that? He thought, musing on as he memorized it, or at least tried to, I'll have to have a few bottles of that picked up, just in case I find a reason to give them to someone....sometime. There was even an almost boyish smile on his face as he watched her write down her request. He wanted it to surprise him. But the request caught him off guard. He repeated the single word, one syllable and indeed simple, "Land?" Now THAT was amusing. What did the woman have in mind? Canada?
"I know your family has several thousand acres outside of Gotham... surrounding the Palisades and other bouts uninhabited farm land, as well as a few hundred acres of forestry." She said. Selina had done her homework. "What I want is that land. The GWF could make great use of it... animals could be moved there, and it could be turned into a wildlife preserve. It would be a start. That land isn't being used for anything else, and has been unattended for years now."
He watched as she began to move around the desk, He had to admit he was slightly disappointed. He hadn't figured out her perfume just yet. He liked the way she carried herself, each step it was a...no it was more of a prowl. She had an almost a cat like grace to her movements that belied confidence beyond anything he'd expected to run across in the day time. He didn't know why his run in with...what was it he should call her, Catwoman...yes, that was it - he couldn't get her out of his head. Unusual.
Bruce was distracted, true. He had been paying attention though and her words were unexpected. His face didn't pale. Not really. It was more of a gut reaction. Something entirely interior. He felt it though, the ice forming in his gut. He knew the land she was speaking of. How could he not? He lips were a flat line now, his eyes like coal, dead, his voice deep but caught somewhere between his throat and his tongue, "I know that land." He cleared his throat and stood. He straightened the lines of his suit. She might assume the meeting was over. That wasn't on his mind, however.
"How so?" Wayne asked, his body already moving. It was his turn to take in the city. He couldn't look at her now. His father's land. Why the hell was she bringing that up? Why did she want it? He doubted she knew that was all he had left, the only thing his father had actually touched, other than a few precious memories kept inside the locked drawer of the desk now behind him. Things that hadn't been lost to the fire or to time itself. It was difficult to recall Thomas and Martha Wayne at times, even they were sometimes embraced by shadow.
I'm not really sure what your answer will be."
"We appear to be on the same playing field, Miss Kyle." He answered, though he didn't look away from the window just yet. He took in a breath and said, "I've never intended on using that land."His father's land. It had been the proposed location for another home, something he could create for his wife, for Martha, for mother. Something the two of them could call their own, something grand. Something less like a museum. He found it ironic that he was now rebuilding the museum. Brick and stone and mortar and plank, Wayne Manor would stand again. He turned back around, the lost feeling faded, for now, "You'll have to excuse me. But I am going to have to decline your request."

"We appear to be on the same playing field, Miss Kyle." He answered, though he didn't look away from the window just yet. He took in a breath and said, "I've never intended on using that land." He said, almost a bit coldly. Selina looked to him - well, she hadn't expected that. She had assumed her request of land had been a rather simple one. And one that would cost him the least amount. But now he was telling her he hadn't intended to USE that land?... So... what? It was just going to sit there? That's all well and good for nature, but these animals needed a preservation.
Taking in a deep breath, Selina bit her tongue from saying anything sarcastic, or frustrated. He turned back around, and continued, "You'll have to excuse me. But I am going to have to decline your request." Bruce told her.
Selina's eyes sparked then; a brief flash of anger, of determination. And even of disappointment. She was close to getting angry; to asking him why the hell he intended to do nothing with the land. Did he take some kind of sick pleasure in refusing people who came to him? Perhaps he just reveled in making people who were less successful than him feel small. He'd let her go on and on, even AFTER he knew what it was she'd wanted. Land. Simple. And yet he'd lured her in, almost taunting the possibility... like he was 'thinking' about it - only to seemingly turn around and refuse.
"Well," Selina said, still attempting to remain professional. To a degree, "I apologize for wasting your time Mr. Wayne... though I suppose I don't really need to, since you've managed to waste mine right back." Selina said, her voice a bit cool. She couldn't resist. Picking up her purse from beside her chair, Selina began to route through it. "Perhaps a simple check of... a mere hundred dollars would better suit your charitable side, hm?" She shrugged. It was really pennies. They already had sponsors who gave much more than that.
But the thought of those animals... especially those endangered wild cats not being able to get the GREATER gift of land - because some business man wasn't ready to give up his property, despite having no plans for it. Standing, Selina pulled her cell phone out from her purse and flipped it open - as she brought her eyes back up to Bruce. "And to save you any further inconvenience, I'll tell my employer that you will simply mail the check. How's that." Selina said, offering him a tight smile. It was obvious she was perturbed by the refusal, as anyone else would be if something they cared about was in jeopardy. But despite being upset, Selina didn't let it show in the form of a hissy fit, or a pout, or any kind of nasty, direct insults to Bruce. She played it cool, and preferred to deliver some casual, sarcastic comments before making her exit. Must remain professional, right?
"Good day, Mr. Wayne." Selina said, nodding to him as she began to dial on her cell. Walking toward his large double doors, she exited them.
But as she got outside the large office - Wayne's young secretary jumped up out of her seat, with a large grin on her face. "Is there anything else I can do for you, Miss?" She asked eagerly.
"That depends. Have any land you're not using?" She asked rhetorically. The young woman furrowed her brow as she looked to Selina quizzically. "Nevermind. Thank you." She finished with a sigh, giving the young woman a weary smile before continuing to pass the desk and move to the elevator.
Pushing the button, Selina waited for the damn thing to travel up the many, many floors of Wayne Enterprises. Crossing her arms, she held her cell to her ear, but let out another frustrated sigh when her boss didn't answer.

He closed his eyes for a moment. He hadn't wanted to disappoint the woman. Not at least until he'd figured out her perfume. Even now it was toying with him, much in the same way he could see his hands pushing the skirt she was wearing up her thighs. Such thoughts were hardly professional, but he was thinking them none the less. He opened his eyes, nodding as he listened to her. He owed her that much. He wouldn't explain his reasoning for several reasons, not the least of which, she hadn't asked.
"Perhaps a simple check of... a mere hundred dollars would better suit your charitable side, hm?"
"As you wish, Miss Kyle." He wouldn't apologize for wasting her time. Or because the meeting hadn't gone the way she'd hoped. In business you took your lumps and you moved on. Their next encounter might go considerably different. He'd actually considered granting her wish. If it had been any other parcel...he would have. He didn't know this woman. He had no idea who she was. She was a beautiful stranger. She intrigued him, yes, but no one would get his father's land. Not as long as he drew breath. His home had been taken from him, his business, perhaps he'd even lost his soul somewhere along the way as well. He couldn't control much in this life, but he could keep this one thing. It was really all he had left of his father that he could touch. He'd been out there for a run just last week. Now that his time was confined to the city so much of the time, he needed that connection. Now more than ever.
"And to save you any further inconvenience, I'll tell my employer that you will simply mail the check. How's that."
"Sounds fine." He turned toward the window once again. His jaw tightened as he heard her open her phone. He took a breath in through his nose, before saying, "I'm certain that the appropriate arrangements can be made." He was aware of what the GWF did, of what service they offered the community. He wasn't connected to their projects enough to know what Selena Kyle had been seeking.
"Good day, Mr. Wayne."
Bruce stood his ground, his back to the door now. She heard it close behind her. He'd expected her to be upset with him, to not understand. But then no one would ever understand. He was tempted to let her go. Another bridge burned to cinders by the often notorious Bruce Wayne. He found it fitting that she'd mentioned a duality present within him. The notion brought a smile to his face. He didn't often smile when no one was around. Smiles from Mister Wayne were always intended for someone or some purpose. Often the ideas were connected. Flies, honey, all of that nonsense. Batman got results and you weren't going to him smile anytime soon.
He turned toward the closed door. It was too fluid, too quick, too composed. No one else was present. There was no need to pretend, for the moment. They were several floors up, not at the highest point in the building but high enough that he could hope for a little help in this. With any luck the elevator would be at either end of the building, up or down it hardly mattered. He was tempted to stop the car. He could do so with his own cell. He didn't. His office was only a few steps away from the disgruntled Miss Kyle.
"Miss Kyle." His tone was confident, if not slightly breathier than he might have liked. He wasn't winded in any way, though now he needed to pretend he was of the twenty minutes a day three times a week crowd. He looked over his shoulder as he waited for Selena to respond, he lifted his chin and signaled his secretary for his coat. He smiled, "One moment, please." He didn't often use that word. He didn't often have to. He waited a moment then said, "I think there has been some miscommunication." Again he waited, a mischievous look forming upon his features, "Or have you made the assumption that I only own one parcel of land?" Well, she had basically called him illiterate and or lazy.

"Miss Kyle." The tone was confident, and familiar. Turning, she saw Mr. Wayne approaching her.
Stopping just short of her, he looked over his shoulder as he waited for Selina to respond, he lifted his chin and signaled his secretary for his coat. "Mr. Wayne. Forget something?" She asked, a teasing smirk on her lips. Though her day hadn't really gotten any better, she would have preferred to just leave Wayne Enterprises with what little pride she felt she still had left.
He smiled, "One moment, please." He waited a moment as he took his coat, and then said, "I think there has been some miscommunication." Again he paused, a mischievous look forming upon his features, "Or have you made the assumption that I only own one parcel of land?" He said, a bit of playful smugness to his voice.
The elevators chimed a pleasant 'bing' as they reached Wayne's top floor, the current one they were on. As the massive doors glided open, Selina stepped in, and to her surprise was followed by Bruce. "Well, forgive me, Mr. Wayne... I am well aware that you have MORE than enough land." She began, reassuringly, before adding - "Just none you are willing to part with." Selina finished in a teasingly casual tone, her eyes focused on the doors ahead of her - and not on him. It wasn't to be rude. But frankly, Bruce was an attractive man; powerful, upstanding citizen. Certainly not the kind of men Selina had been reduced to fraternizing with in her old life.
But she wasn't about to let his looks or charms sway her from her goal. She couldn't let herself be drawn in by his somewhat pretentious charm or the money flashed around the entire office. It spoke of wealth. Success. And that was one thing Selina knew she hadn't been today. Successful.
Her eyes shifted down slightly as she saw him put something into the elevator button panel. Instead of pushing the 'main floor' button - Bruce stuck a key into a key slot located above all other numbers... and then turned it. The doors closed, and to her surprise, it began to go up. Not down. A brief, second of panic struck a chord inside her, before Selina forced herself to remain calm. This wasn't some average guy. It wasn't like he was Saul Patroza, and was taking her to a secret location to kill her. He was a billionaire. She wasn't worth his time.
Perhaps he was merely dropping himself off at his destination before allowing her to go her own way, back down to ground level. Crossing her arms, Selina bit her bottom lip softly, before another thought struck her. Wait. They were on the top floor. Where exactly were they going?... There was nothing else around here.
But as the elevator doors opened again - Selina's senses were spun for a loop. She was graced with a cool breeze on her skin, a marvelous view of Gotham City... and the sound of a helicopter, stationed at the other side of the roof. The young woman looked to Bruce beside her, somewhat confused - but with a small smirk on her lips, before she turned and shook her head slightly. "I get it. You're rich." She mused, before motioning to the helicopter with a gesture of her head. "Is it taking you to lunch in Hawaii?... Or perhaps a late breakfast in the alps." Selina teased. She couldn't help it. She'd never encountered anyone with so much clout, and her personality was naturally sharp witted and refined.
After all, she was sure if he really knew where SHE'D come from... he would have been making jokes about her dominatrix days, or not wearing leather for once, or not being accompanied by a whip. Despite the fact, that the latter of those previous occupation tools she still used. But as Catwoman. "What's the deal, Mr. Wayne?... Trying to show me how big your helicopter is?" She asked with a quirked brow.
It could have been a euphemism. But they were doing business. no time for that, right?

"Mr. Wayne. Forget something?" She asked, a teasing smirk on her lips.
"Not exactly, Miss Kyle." Bruce quipped. He said little else as he followed her onto the elevator. Wayne should have wondered why he was even bothering with this. He should consider what drew him to her or had made him follow her in the first place. But then it was just so incredibly rare that he actually found a woman as intriguing, as interesting, as he was finding this woman. If he hadn't known where she'd come from he would have never guessed that this was the same woman. It made him wonder if this wasn't the real deal and that other woman the impostor.
The woman oozed confidence. She had enough going on inside her head to have virtually breezed through the past few tests. He was well aware that despite his reputation as a dimwit, he still had tremendous power, he'd been intimidating people long before he'd put on cape or cowl and become the Batman. It made him wonder if she hadn't simply suffered some sad twist of fate that had taken her down the road she'd once been on. It made him question what that bad luck may have been and what good luck she'd come upon to change things. He hoped she'd use this luck and change her life. For the better.
"Well, forgive me, Mr. Wayne... I am well aware that you have MORE than enough land." She began, reassuringly, before adding - "Just none you are willing to part with."
He had stepped in beside her, said nothing. He had yet to let her know that there was a reason beyond a shared ride in his presence here. She'd been trying to make things 'easier' for him back in his office, this was his way of doing so now. Bruce turned the key. The lift began to rise. He billionaire smiled. The billionaire said, "Our interests aren't so dissimilar, Miss Kyle." He may not be a dominatrix, but he did like leather. And he liked control. The jury was still out on whips. Well, unless the woman was in skin tight leather from head to toe with the kind of flexibility that made a man meow.
He kept his gaze forward on the much less exciting interior of this particular elevator. He preferred the private car he kept for his own personal use inside his office. Oh, it was hardly decorated to these standards, but it was fast and it got her where he wanted to go in the blink of an eye. This one seemed to crawl by comparison. He couldn't share that with her, but he could say, "Not too long ago, I went for a run on the property you mentioned earlier. During that run I came across a handful of deer, two bears, and even a coyote. There was no fear in their eyes, they didn't run. Outside of the fact that the land has been in my family for generations, I'd simply rather not destroy that. They felt safe. Such innocence should be protected." The door opened and he stepped out into the sunlight, "I don't expect you to understand."
"I get it. You're rich." She mused, before motioning to the helicopter with a gesture of her head. "Is it taking you to lunch in Hawaii?... Or perhaps a late breakfast in the alps."
"That isn't a bad idea...but I've already eaten." He tossed back lightly as his hand came up to rest just as lightly against the back of her arm as he guided her toward the copter. "What's the deal, Mr. Wayne?... Trying to show me how big your helicopter is?" He laughed at her attempt at humor, her flirtation. Or so he decided it to be. A smile met her then as he said, "I trust that you can spare me an hour of your time?" He waited to see what she'd say before he smirked. This as he offered to help her inside the comfortable ride. Inside the passenger seats were as plush as the best that money could buy, again the leather was brown - a distinct choice to distance himself from the black he spent most of his nights in now. The large machine hummed as the blades began to whirl faster in preparation for lift off, "I promise to make it worth your while." He waited until the were comfortable and added, deciding to take his own flirtation to the next level. Somehow he didn't think she'd mind his own euphemism, "It may be larger than some and the ride can get a little rough, but I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself." It wasn't really appropriate to even hint at anything remotely sexual in business, but then Selena Kyle wasn't just any woman.
The rotation of the blades quickened as they took off, "Take us to the reserve at Wayne Lake." He sat back comfortably, "Tell me, Miss Kyle, what is it you want this land for? Company picnics? A place to stretch your legs?"

A smile met her then as he said, "I trust that you can spare me an hour of your time?" He waited to see her nod - before he smirked. He walked Selina toward the helicopter, and helped her inside to sit. She debated saying something about his earlier comment; about how she wouldn't 'understand' that the animals felt safe. That such innocence should be protected. No. Selina understood better than Bruce Wayne could even imagine. That's what she wanted for these animals. Hell, that's what she wanted for herself; to be in a place without fear. With her emerged alter-ego Catwoman, Selina was slowly conquering that fear. She was getting stronger, more used to the city core, and making things happen for her. Not for anyone else. It was an empowering thing to put on a mask; to be someone else, someone inside you that you normally would never let out. Not that a billionaire playboy would ever understand that.
The large machine hummed as the blades began to whirl faster in preparation for lift off, "I promise to make it worth your while." He waited until the were comfortable and added, deciding to take his own flirtation to the next level. Somehow he didn't think she'd mind his own euphemism, "It may be larger than some and the ride can get a little rough, but I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself." He said.
At that quip, Selina actually let a laugh escape past her lips; it was almost a laugh that seemed to say 'touche' - but she nodded and said nothing. Her eyes stayed on Bruce for a few moments after the retort - before they were drawn to the window as they began to soar over Gotham's skyline. The rotation of the blades quickened as they took off, "Take us to the reserve at Wayne Lake." Bruce said. Selina quirked a brow as her attention was drawn back to the man across from her. Huh. The Wayne's had a LAKE, did they?... Damn. She had to remember to bone up on the Wayne's family history before she next met with Bruce. Apparently she missed the memo of just how important they were to the city. Then again, Selina figured she missed a lot of 'memos' concerning THIS end of town. Wasn't exactly her born and bred privilege, but her confidence masked any of that.
She could only hope it would last.
He sat back comfortably, "Tell me, Miss Kyle, what is it you want this land for? Company picnics? A place to stretch your legs?" He asked. A brief spark of fire lit her eyes then as she focused on him more.
"That sounds more like your agenda, Mr. Wayne, than it does my own." She responded smoothly, before continuing. After all, he was the one with money to burn on land to 'stretch his legs' on - and he was the one with the company. "The GWF can use this land as a host. Granted, the Gotham Zoo doesn't have a great deal of money, but they're surviving. Part of the donations we receive go toward furthering the care and facilities at the Gotham Zoo where these animals are being kept. But those conditions are hardly prepossessing - and the animals that are climbing their way to the 'extinction' list, courtesy of Gotham's trigger-finger stock brokers, have little room or reason to reproduce in such a habitat." She explained, sitting back more comfortably in the seat as she instinctively crossed her legs again; staring at Bruce across from her. "The purchase of land will allow the GWF to expand in coordination with the Gotham Zoo. Having this land sanctioned off and protected will ALLOW these animals to re-populate, and re-establish themselves in the wild. Now it isn't Africa, or the Congo... but it's a start." She said, in relation to calling ANY land around Gotham 'the wild'. "They will thrive in safety until their numbers reach the appropriate figure that gets them off that extinction list." Selina finished - her manor returned to a more stern and confident one. It seemed to happen when relating back to business. WHY she was here. What she personally was fighting for.
Removing her gaze from Bruce, Selina's thoughts continued as her eyes trailed the scenery that flew by beneath them. "Lex Corp in Metropolis has already successfully managed to put the branch of MWF under, due to lack of funding and capital for any land they wished to purchase. Lex Corp bought any scrap of remaining, uninhibited land surrounding Metropolis to further fund and expand their own business." She said somewhat sarcastically, a bit of bite in her tone. Selina couldn't imagine someone being so heartless toward nature; the very thing that helped sustain THEM.
She could only hope Bruce Wayne was not as cold hearted of a bastard as the chairmen at Lex Corp apparently were.

He laughed in response, actually resorting to using the word himself, "Touche." He was in the habit of watching Gotham from above. It was only natural to fall into that same habit now as they flew over the Gotham City Bank and Trust building. His eyes scanned the horizon as if looking for any signs that he shouldn't be taking this time, this excursion. His ears perked, as if he might have had the ability to hear in the same way the Batman could. No such luck. Everything was quiet, well beyond the sound of the machine they were riding in. Everything looked quiet on the ground as well. Though he knew appearances could be deceiving, he relaxed back into the seat more comfortably. He waited for her to explain her motives before speaking again. He hadn't given her the opportunity in his office and she'd been kind enough to humor him. it was the least he could do.
"The GWF can use this land as a host. Granted, the Gotham Zoo doesn't have a great deal of money, but they're surviving. She said, in relation to calling ANY land around Gotham 'the wild'.
"Ambitious." He said in response to that. He didn't reveal it in his face or his body language but he was impressed. Man had long ago begun the process of dominating the planet, much to the disruption of everything around him. But then man was capable of great destruction was he not? Bruce turned his face from the window, looking upon the woman with a greater appreciation. He hadn't expected anything so selfless. Bats were endangered as well, not that anyone would be making that leap of protection anytime soon. Bats were never cubs, or kittens, or pups. They didn't have a cute stage to endear them to the populace. Like snakes, they were born fully formed and able to enact their roles. However misunderstood, part of the reason both were so effective as icons of fear was that in most cases fear arose from something as simple as the failure to understand or comprehend the bigger picture.
"They will thrive in safety until their numbers reach the appropriate figure that gets them off that extinction list." Selina finished - her manor returned to a more stern and confident one. It seemed to happen when relating back to business. WHY she was here. What she personally was fighting for.
"I see." She was getting more passionate now. It was exactly why he was holding back, allowing her to place her cards on the table, to reveal her hand. He knew that whatever conclusion she was coming to about him he would be able to repair it soon enough. He wanted to know as much as he could about her before they landed. He hadn't considered that the GWF might be struggling, or that the Zoo might be in trouble. It was an organization he supported with a minor donation each year. As a citizen of Gotham it was his duty to offer whatever aide he could. Generally, his aide came in the form of and function of a more humanistic bent, cleaning up the streets, health care, education and the arts. Maybe he needed to do more for the GWF. Maybe such a move would impress this woman and earn him a chance to see her again. Only time would tell.
Removing her gaze from Bruce, Selina's thoughts continued as her eyes trailed the scenery that flew by beneath them. "Lex Corp in Metropolis has already successfully managed to put the branch of MWF under, due to lack of funding and capital for any land they wished to purchase. Lex Corp bought any scrap of remaining, uninhibited land surrounding Metropolis to further fund and expand their own business."
"I've heard something of that, yes." Wayne responded as he thought of Luther's other business practices. He himself hadn't been forced to deal with the man but he'd heard the war stories. Wayne Enterprises had barely escaped a hostile takeover a few years back, Luther had been behind the movement to take Wayne public. Unfortunately for Luther and for the board who'd been poised to gain from such a move, Bruce had returned from the dead just in time to thwart such a move. His return had left Luther out in the cold. He was sure it was far from over.
"I can assure you, Miss Kyle, that Wayne Enterprises shares only a Fortune 500 status with Luther's Lex Corp. Beyond that, the two entities couldn't, and shouldn't, be compared." He wasn't offended, far from it. This was just conversation. The trip out to the land in question wasn't a long one. It could take just under an hour by car, depending on the traffic, but then they were moving much faster now. He felt the need to explain what she was about to see, "What I want to show you is a property that the Wayne Foundation has been in the process of acquiring for the the past several years, though since I've come aboard, the emphasis and site planning has shifted focus."
"Originally, not surprisingly, my predecessor had intended it to become the future site of a factory to improve production. Instead, I've chosen to refit three of our current locations." The decision had been completely economic, though he hadn't wanted to displace families or himself end up having to come out here daily or weekly. His time was too precious, as it was he hardly slept. He sighed, continuing, "I'd planned to use this property for a recreation center, a place of respite for Wayne employees and their families. As you'll see we've begun that process."
As the chopper turned in the air the beginnings of a man made lake could be seen nestled in the base of the foothills forming the bridge between the farm land stretching out beneath them now. Forests lined and enclosed the area. There were a few aging structures dotting the otherwise bucolic landscape, namely a few farm houses and some outbuildings, a couple of barns, decayed fences. A road had been started, for construction purposes, leading along the nearest tree line to the area where water was already being trucked in to supplement the three natural springs that would help feed the emerging lake. Wayne Lake was nothing but a design on paper, but already its future could be seen beneath them. As they turned again, circling around to get a good over view of the property, he asserted, "I could be persuaded to lease this land to an organization such as the GWF."

He wasn't offended, far from it. This was just conversation. The trip out to the land in question wasn't a long one. It could take just under an hour by car, depending on the traffic, but then they were moving much faster now. She was slightly relieved to hear that Wayne Corp. had little to do with Lex's business. Both seemed like juggernauts in the business world, however, it would appear that Wayne was, perhaps, a bit more well liked.
Selina nodded as he continued. He felt the need to explain what she was about to see, "What I want to show you is a property that the Wayne Foundation has been in the process of acquiring for the the past several years, though since I've come aboard, the emphasis and site planning has shifted focus." He began, "Originally, not surprisingly, my predecessor had intended it to become the future site of a factory to improve production. Instead, I've chosen to refit three of our current locations." He sighed, continuing, "I'd planned to use this property for a recreation center, a place of respite for Wayne employees and their families. As you'll see we've begun that process."
Selina nodded once more as she looked out to the gorgeous area beneath them. It sounded like a charitable enough idea. But she had to wonder what all this had to do with her. At the moment, it seemed like such a tease... as if he were flaunting these pieces of land under her nose. As the chopper turned in the air the beginnings of a man made lake could be seen nestled in the base of the foothills forming the bridge between the farm land stretching out beneath them now. Forests lined and enclosed the area. As they turned again, circling around to get a good over view of the property, he asserted, "I could be persuaded to lease this land to an organization such as the GWF." Bruce said.
Selina's head snapped back to him, her eyes focusing on the billionaire across from her in surprise. She didn't really know what to say at the moment, so instead, she gave a small smile - her eyes turning back to the window of the helicopter to admire the land more closely. "You would..." She began, but stopped herself and looked back to him. Her arms rested on her crossed legs, as she leaned forward a bit - her eyes staring at him warmly. "You could be persuaded." She mumbled, "Which indicates you want to be persuaded... so... why not just tell me what it is you'd like in return." Selina smirked, quirking an intrigued brow as she looked to him.

"You would..." She began, but stopped herself and looked back to him.
She stopped herself. That caused one of Bruce Wayne's brows to arch slightly. He knew he'd caught her off guard. He liked that. It was generally amusing to see people scramble. Call it a game. Call it a way of life. Call it what you will. Whatever the case, the woman was opening herself up to him again. He might yet get that date after all. Such was the life of international playboy Bruce Wayne. Besides, he needed a woman for this coming Tuesday. Tuesday was generally a slow night.
"You could be persuaded." She mumbled, "Which indicates you want to be persuaded... so... why not just tell me what it is you'd like in return."
He smiled, the edges of his lips curling upward, "We'll get to that later. Or will you find it difficult to enjoy yourself if I don't?" He grinned, leaning forward himself, "Humor me, if you will for a few more minutes. Make sure that what I will ask of you is worth it." He signaled to the pilot to wait for them, "Cut the engine, George. We don't need to be unnecessarily wasteful." Bad for the environment and all of that. Bound to get him some points with the lady, right? Or so that was the vibe he was playing at here.
He climbed out of the copter and offered her a hand, "Business before pleasure, eh, Miss Kyle?" He smiled, his shot at warmth. Once they were clear of the slowing blades above their heads he offered her another smile before moving several feet away from the men who worked for him. He turned to her, thinking seriously now, of the possibilities open to her, to him, to the GWF, "You may be wondering why I mentioned a lease agreement? Things of this nature can be rather complex, I wouldn't want to bore you. Not that I know all of the details myself. I pay people for this kind of thing. I've dealt with enough charitable organizations to....anyway, not important."
It was so difficult to pretend to blow smoke out of your ass at times, but then he had to remind himself that she didn't truly care how intelligent Bruce Wayne was or wasn't. Not as long as she got what she had come to him for. None of them did. He sighed, full of feigned self importance, "I'm thinking of a number. One I am sure you and your employer will agree is reasonable and beneficial to all concerned parties." He indicated a spot at the edge of the clearing, near a break in the tree line, "We can get a decent vantage point from there. You can decide if the place suits your needs."
Once they were overlooking the area where Wayne Lake might have been, where it was now a work in progress, "I'm thinking of a long term lease, to the GWF. The only and best figure I can come up with is one dollar. For say each twenty year lease. The terms can be worked out later. And, of course, as with all properties leased from Wayne interests, we do provide the option of renovation to suit each tenant. Perhaps we can come to some agreement in that regard as well, Miss Kyle." He halted, paused as if something had just occurred to him, something that might be a deal breaker, "That is, if you are interested in this particular property. I do realize it isn't your first choice."

"Alright, Mr. Wayne. I'll humor you." She responded with a nod, a small smirk playing at the corner of her lips. Though Selina was nearly bursting inside with excitement. To her, this land posed a better prospect than the first one she had initially wanted near the Palisades. It had everything, and seemed like it could easily be sanctioned off and protected.
He climbed out of the copter and offered her a hand, "Business before pleasure, eh, Miss Kyle?" He smiled, his shot at warmth.
"But of course." She responded, taking his hand and accepting the help down from the helicopter - before they began to walk. Once they were clear of the slowing blades above their heads he offered her another smile before moving several feet away from the men who worked for him. He turned to her once more, "You may be wondering why I mentioned a lease agreement? Things of this nature can be rather complex, I wouldn't want to bore you. He indicated a spot at the edge of the clearing, near a break in the tree line, "We can get a decent vantage point from there. You can decide if the place suits your needs."
Selina nodded and followed Bruce's lead, before they stopped at the area he'd pointed out. Once they were overlooking the area where Wayne Lake might have been, where it was now a work in progress, "I'm thinking of a long term lease, to the GWF. The only and best figure I can come up with is one dollar. For say each twenty year lease. The terms can be worked out later." He said casually, as if it were nothing.
Selina couldn't help but look aside to him - attempting to mask any surprise that might have been hidden in her focused depths. Slowly, she nodded, a smile gracing the corner of her lips again - wider than before. "And, of course, as with all properties leased from Wayne interests, we do provide the option of renovation to suit each tenant. Perhaps we can come to some agreement in that regard as well, Miss Kyle." He halted, paused as if something had just occurred to him, something that might be a deal breaker, "That is, if you are interested in this particular property. I do realize it isn't your first choice."
"Beggars can't be choosers, Mr. Wayne." She responded; it wasn't necessarily that the GWF was 'begging' - but they were certainly asking for a hand. "First choices are merely preliminary desires. One's desires can change when an opportunity arises... and I'm not so stubborn that I can't recognize a good deal when it's offered." She smiled. Looking across the view of the land again - Selina let out a small sigh, before moving her attention back to Wayne. "I was brought into this particular task because of my level headed nature. The head of the GWF knew I wasn't going to be persuaded by a good looking billionaire or his staff. And he knew that I have the GWF's best interest in mind. So I believe that I can say, with some confidence, that we have a deal." She said assuredly with a small smile toward him.
As the words left her mouth, Selina felt relieved; relieved that she'd finally secured a deal. A big one for the GWF, it would seem. And certainly, she could see how others might have been deterred by Wayne's attitude, his confidence and overall presence. "That is, of course... so long as I'm told WHAT exactly I am going to be exchanging for this deal." She smirked with a brow raised. Selina held out her hand to him, as if to shake to confirm it.
